Oman Football Association Members Resign

All the Oman Football Association (OFA) members and board of directors, with the exception of two, have submitted their resignation to the Minister of Sports Affairs, Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidi on the 26/12/2006. Two members, who were not present at the board meeting, are yet to submit their resignation.

The resignation of the OFA members comes in the wake of the below par performances of our national soccer teams in its different age categories. The resignation was called upon by the general public and some 17 regional clubs. As a result, an extraordinary general meeting was held on 18-12-2006.

To me it looks like the members of the Omani Football Association were fearful of the extraordinary general assembly and the possible resulting embarrassment, hence have opted to resign instead of being sacked.

There are a few questions, however, in and around this OFA resignation mainly, is it the right timing for such an action to be called upon ? What will be the impact of the resignation on our participation in the Gulf Cup in Abu Dhabi ? Who will be the new chairman of the OFA ? Was H.E. Ali Al Sunaidi correct in scheduling an extraordinary meeting in this particular period ? What is the real motive behind this group resignation ?

Only a few days after writing an article about the responsibilities of different entities towards the overall well being of football in Oman (refer to Analysis of the Omani Domestic Soccer League), where I have made clear that the Omani Football Association has been the main culprit in victimizing soccer in Oman, we were stunned by the news of this group resignation by the board members of the OFA. Although it has been called upon for quite a long time by the general public, the timing of the resignation is somewhat awkward and could cause further debacle to the already underperforming soccer national team.

Resignation reasons that we have been told

More than 17 clubs and the general public have been asking for such a resignation due to the recent performance of the OFA.

Hidden motives

In my opinion, the board members were fearful of being sacked as a result of the extraordinary general meeting and hence have opted to resign. They are aware that they have taken football in Oman back to the dark days with their miss planning and disorganization and, knowing that they only seek easy solutions, perhaps discovered that there isn't an easy way back.

Impact of the resignation on out national soccer team

No matter how much we like to deny it, surely there will be some impact, albeit minimal, on our participation in the Gulf Cup which will be held in Abu Dhabi on the 17th of January of 2006. This resignation has solved the disorganization with an even bigger disorganization.

New Omani Football Association chairman ?

I, like many others believe that H.H Shihab bin Tariq Al Saeed, current president of Al Seeb club, is the most appropriate and if it does not materialize for one reason or another then it is suggested that the job be assigned to someone who has some football background.

Opinion

Firstly, I believe that H.E Ali Al Sunaidi got the timing of the general meeting wrong given that the Gulf Cup is only 3 weeks away. In my opinion, he should have waited until the conclusion of the Gulf Cup before taking any action to spare the soccer team and us this debacle, especially that there are around 5 months between the latter cup and the Asian Cup 2007 that would have proved more than enough for this reformation.

Secondly, I believe that the defunct members of the OFA board realized that they will be under more fire had they waited until the conclusion of the Gulf Cup, perhaps anticipating another below par performance from the football team.

Thirdly, I hope this situation does not get milked by the new OFA members should the national soccer team fail to live up to the nation's expectations in the Gulf Cup, 2007.

Last but not least, I deeply hope that the same mistakes are not repeated when selecting the new members of the OFA. The association needs fresh blood, ones that are knowledgeable in football. Ones that question and critique our national head coach, especially when the national team prepares for future tournaments by playing friendly matches against third and fourth division Czech clubs while other countries like UAE, Qatar and Kuwait play the likes of Brazil and Portugal.

UAW Members Fault Union Leaders For Concessions

The United Auto Workers (UAW) members faulted union leaders for being too eager to agree to concessions. Automakers, on the other hand, said that they need to restore profits.

Angelo Bruno, 39, a painter at Ford Motor Co.'s Michigan Truck Plant, said they will try to swallow their ire and accept a deal that likely will bring more cuts. "It was a great ride," Bruno said. "But now globalization is killing us. We've got no choice."

Many automotive workers are striving to work balance despite the growing mistrust building inside. They have to work hard to rival more efficient foreign rivals. They have to consider the quality of their auto parts like EBC pads as well as the quality of their work despite their depressing working conditions.

Bruno believed that the vote held by his local UAW authorizing Ford to enforce major work rule changes at the plant was rigged. Changes include shifting to a 10-hour-a-day, four-day work week. Workers said turnout was deliberately kept low because they had to scramble through a snowstorm to vote at the local union hall. Traditionally, votes have been held inside the plant, Bruno said.

In spite of the gloomy plight, Bruno said he is willing to approve a national contract this fall that analysts predict could cut his pay, make him dig deeper to pay for his health care, and possibly thin his pension. "It's a betrayal," Bruno said. "I don't think anyone's being honest with us. I just hope I can stomach it." But he admits times have changed for him and even a lower-paying Ford job is probably better than anything else he could get. "I'm 55 years old," he said. "The economy would eat me up."

Top UAW officials declined to give further details on the upcoming contract talks however automakers have signaled their goal to pursue terms that are aimed at decreasing their labor and legacy costs that include pension, health care and retiree benefits.

Al Benchich, the president of UAW Local 909, said that many local union officials are trying to "balance on a tight rope." Benchich represents workers at General Motors Corp.'s powertrain plant in Warren. Everyone knows the situation the auto industry finds itself in," he said. "We are trying to determine a strategy based in reality."

Disillusionment among the rank-and-file runs deep partly because the union has been so effective at protecting its workers, said Harley Shaiken, a labor professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Shaiken has close ties to the UAW and automakers.

"They've dodged a lot of bullets, but the bullets are whizzing by a lot closer now," Shaiken said. "Despite the decades-long retrenching of the Big Three, there has never been this scale of layoffs. The UAW has always achieved some hard-fought gains."

The UAW has agreed to close some facilities and introduce more money-saving measures into factories. However, the union also won pay gains and has preserved medical benefits as well as job protections like the continuance of compensation to laid off workers.

Shaiken abhorred the idea that UAW leaders have sold out the rank-and-file. "They are not going to sacrifice the gains it took 60 years for them to build," he said. "They are very realistic about how tough times are right now. You've got constructive discussions between both sides. Both sides want to see healthier companies."

Choosing and Applying Foundation, Concealer, Powder and Blusher

Foundation should match your skin tone. Test several different shades at the beauty counter by administering a small touch of foundation on to the back of the hand, rub in gently and choose the foundation that blends in with your natural skin colour. You will usually find a few free testers on display.

When applying foundation to your face, dab it on your hands and pat it on to your forehead, cheekbones, the tip of your nose and your chin. Blend it in. For the fragile area around the eyes, tap and blend in a mere trace of foundation with your little finger using an inward motion under the eyes. Do not forget to extend the foundation over the jaw line and neck so that you do not leave a line. Finish off by patting gently with a damp sponge to give your skin a lovely natural look.

Concealer: With the many different tones and textures of concealer on the market, finding one that suits you can be a daunting task. As mentioned earlier, test some on the back of your hand by gently rubbing on to the skin. The correct concealer for you will blend in with your natural skin tone.

Concealers are used mainly for correcting poor skin tones, concealing dark circles under the eyes, improving and contouring facial features.

A mauve based concealer will brighten up a pale and dull skin tone. Use a green base to conceal red blotches and ruddiness. Always apply foundation before the concealer.

To reduce dark circles under the eyes use a yellow based concealer. Apply to the darkest areas with a small brush and blend in gently with your fingertips. Apply the concealer prior to putting on your foundation.

To improve facial features, use pale shades to lengthen and lighten and dark shades to reduce, deepen and conceal. Available as creams, liquids and pencils. Apply after basic foundation.

Contour your face using a foundation or concealer two shades darker than your natural skin tone. Create depth and shadow in areas such as the cheeks and jaw. Use highlighting cream on the top of your cheek-bones to emphasize their shape.

Powder: Keep your powder application light. Blot the face lightly with a tissue, especially over the forehead, nose and chin. Pick up the powder on the puff and press it firmly on the face, one area at a time. Do not try to smooth it on by massaging the puff over the face. Whisk away the access using a soft, thick powder brush. Brush downwards to avoid powder getting caught in the fine facial hair.

Blusher: Use a rose-toned blusher for fair skin, for olive skin use peach and for a dark complexion choose red or apricot.

Put the blush on your brush, tapping off any excess. Look into the mirror and smile. This pin-points where the 'apples' of your cheek are. Gently brush the blusher upwards towards the temple, making a slight curve. Keep colour light and blend in well for a natural look. A touch of colour across the forehead and on the chin completes the look.

Relationship Trouble: Lack of Communication

Lack of communication is perhaps the most common and one of the most deadly forms of relationship trouble.
